Who needs Orthotic Insoles?

Orthotic Insoles benefit people with foot pain or discomfort due to walking imbalance (biomechanical complaint). Imbalances such as Flat feet, heel pain, knee pain and shin pain are known to cause pain and discomfort.

How are orthotics fitted?

There are multiple ways a podiatrist can fit your feet with a set of truly custom orthotics. The most common include:

  • Biomechanical examination
  • Gait analysis
  • Casting (3D casting, semi-weight-bearing casting or neutral position casting)
  • 3D scanning

What conditions are eased with orthotics?

Orthotics can be effective treatments for a couple painful, uncomfortable, debilitating foot problems. The most common foot ailments eased and treated by orthotics include plantar fasciitis, arthritis, diabetic foot ulcers, heel pain, and metatarsalgia. Most of these foot conditions affect the joints and bones of the feet as well as foot circulation issues.

How long are orthotics worn for?

Those who are prescribed custom orthotics often have a foot issue that requires the constant and long-term wearing of an orthotic. Orthotics are typically worn for many years.

Sometimes surgery is necessary to correct the patient’s foot problem, after which an orthotic may no longer be necessary.

It takes around two weeks to fully adjust to a new orthotic.

Using your custom orthotics:

After providing a prescription from a healthcare professional, our high-quality orthotics as well as foot castings are then individually customized and created. It is our priority to ensure that these custom made orthotics are created perfectly in order to assist you with your foot condition

Getting used to your orthotics:

If you are using orthotics for your first time, your orthotics will require a break in period as your feet need time to adjust to the correct biomechanical walking position. Orthotics should be gradually used to begin with, and require a break in period. This can be done by wearing your orthotics for an hour out of everyday for the first few days and gradually increasing the time in order to adequately allow time for your body to become accustomed to them. It is advised that you consult with a healthcare professional in order to coordinate an appropriate break in schedule.

Do I need to follow up after wearing my orthotics?

We recommend a follow-up appointment with your healthcare professional to check how your orthotics are performing to your specific needs. In cases of any pain or discomfort, please discontinue wearing your orthotics and consult with the practitioner that dispensed the orthotics in order to make the proper adjustments.

Can I transfer my orthotics into different types of shoes?

Different shoes need different orthotics. To receive the full benefit of your custom foot orthotics, they need to fit properly into your footwear. Custom made foot orthotics may be transferred between similar types of shoes. For example, athletic shoes involving walking, hiking and running. While, dress shoes and sandals for example may require a different style of orthotic. Often, two pairs of orthotics are advisable for different lifestyle needs.
